Scorpions - Good Luck Minis®
Animal science has become much more than heading out to the field with a notebook and compass. Today’s scientists studying the natural history of animals are often molecular biologists or from a related profession, and their work is more often done in a lab with a computer-powered microscope. The fossil record reveals that scorpions existed before dinosaurs. Molecular biology tells us that they became venomous once they switched from water to land as a result of the change in a single gene. Theorists guess that the change was required because land-based scorpions are smaller than their swimming ancestors. 1700 species later, scorpions exist worldwide, and more than 25 have deadly venom.
