Flying tree frogs live in the forests and tropical rainforests of Asia, Africa, Central America, and South America. Similar to animals like the flying squirrel, flying tree frogs do not actually fly. Instead, they’re able to glide down from great heights. Scientific Name: Family Hylidae and Rhacophoridae Characteristics: Although you might think the adaptation to glide in frogs is fairly unique, it’s actually present in thousands of different species! Like all Safari figurines, this flying tree frog model has been design with scientific accuracy in mind, and provides a wealth of wildlife knowledge! Size and Color: Many flying tree frog species are bright green in color, although they can also be brown and copper. Standing 4 inches tall and 9 inches wide, this figurine is an inch shorter than a soda can and a bit wider than a legal-sized piece of paper. The Flying Tree Frog is part of the Incredible Creatures® collection. All of our products are Non-toxic and BPA free.

Flying tree frogs developed the features needed to fly over thousands of years. While they are still commonly found in many of their endemic regions, habitat loss and fragmentation due to deforestation has a detrimental effect on their population numbers. However, two new flying tree frog species, named the Helen’s flying frog and the vampire flying frog, were recently discovered in Vietnam.

Many flying tree frog species are listed as Least Concern due to abundant populations, while there is not enough data available to classify other species. The Vietnam flying frog is listed as Near Threatened, and the Mindanao flying frog is listed as Vulnerable due to declining populations. The main threat for flying tree frogs is habitat loss from logging and agriculture.
