  • This many-tentacle Jellyfish is one of many species of the ubiquitous, sometimes dangerous ocean dweller. The Pelagia Noctiluca lives mostly in the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean, and its sting is quite painful to humans.
  • Scientific Name: Pelagia noctiluca
  • Characteristics: With tentacles and thicker oral arms, these mini jellyfish are true to life. Add some realism to an ocean unit or project, or give them away as fun gifts.
  • Size and Color: The real things can vary in color from light to dark mauve, so these mini Jellyfish are a bright pink. From the top of their umbrella to the ends of their tentacles, these figures are less than an inch long, about as tall as a grape.

  • All of our products are Non-toxic and BPA free
  • History

The Mediterranean Sea is often considered a vacationer’s paradise. Warm seas and sandy beaches line the northern coast, and countries like Italy and Greece depend on tourism for economic development. The growing presence of stinging jellyfish in those perfect swimming waters is, then, a cause of great concern. Some beach towns have had to limit swimming to prevent vacationers from encountering the dangerous, stinging jellyfish, yet experts estimate 150,000 people are treated for jellyfish stings each year in towns around the Mediterranean. Some experts blame overfishing for an increase in jellyfish numbers, while others credit warming oceans.

Jellyfish live in warm coastal waters where they use the powerful venom in their tentacles to catch food. Although jellyfish can be 10 feet (3 m) long, they are only 10 inches (25 cm) across and weigh only 4 pounds (2 kg). Jellyfish don't have bones, which is why they are so wobbly and how they got their name.
