  • The number of bats is beyond counting, and they live worldwide in tropical and temperate zones. There are over 1000 separate species, but all are mammals capable of flight. Most use a form of echolocation for nocturnal hunting and have a squished pug-like face.
  • Scientific Name: order Chiroptera
  • Characteristics: These classic, detailed bat figures appear to be in flight. They’d make a delightful addition to a fall or Halloween party as decorations or prizes. They’ve also been used in art projects or in haunted venues. Beyond that, minis are fun to collect.
  • Size and Color: These realistic little bats are so dark brown they almost appear black, with a lighter brown accent about the face for contrast. They are about the width of a paperclip.
  • Bats are part of the Good Luck Minis® collection
  • All of our products are Non-toxic and BPA free
  • History

Bats are astonishingly diverse. The order Chiroptera (meaning hand wing) contains two suborders: megachiroptera and microchiroptera. Those two suborders are further divided into 18 families. Those families are subdivided into over 200 genera (the plural of genus) and then into over 1000 species, with the numbers growing as new discoveries are made. Species names are often quite creative, including things like cave animal, nocturnal pig, monster bat, night hunter, and withered toad. It’s thought possible that the two suborders, originating in Australia and South America, may have evolved completely separately from distinct insectivores.
