Commonly found throughout the western and central United States, northern Mexico, and southern Canada, the American badger is a carnivorous mammal that has a reputation for being both aggressive and formidable. In the wild, it was every few natural predators.

  • History:

    The American badger is a member of the Mustelidae family, making it very closely related to animals like the weasel, wolverine, ferret, mink, and otter. They can be incredibly aggressive, and have been documented fighting and fending off bears and bobcats in order to protect their recently hunted prey.

    Present Status Badgers live in the western grasslands and central plains areas of North America.They range from southern Canada down into southern Mexico. They are also found as far east as Ohio and Michigan. They are not considered threatened, but in certain areas, they are labeled as protected to maintain appropriate population levels.
