Harp Seals - 192 pcs - Good Luck Minis®
The Harp Seal swims the frigid waters of the Arctic and North Atlantic Oceans, with a thick fur coat and a layer of blubber to insulate from its chilly environment. Only baby seals have a white coat; it’s replaced with darker fur when they switch to life in the water. History:
The Harp seal’s scientific name means “ice lover from Greenland.” Although the pups are known for their white coats, the color is short lived. Harp seals begin life on the ice with yellowish fur, but after only a few days, their coat turns stark white. After about a month of living on the ice, the white fur falls out to reveal the sleek, spotted greyish coat underneath.
Scientific Name: Phagocillus groenlandicus
