Did you know that iguanas are actually excellent swimmers? In fact, they spend a large majority of their life in the wild around bodies of water, and often elude would-be predators by swimming away from them. The green iguana species is classified as least concern by the IUCN, although the Lesser Antillean iguana is currently threatened by habitat loss and degradation.

Several iguana species are listed as critically endangered, including the Galapagos pink land iguana, the Fiji crested iguana and the Utila spiny-tailed iguana.
