    History:

The American Civil War, which lasted from 1861 to 1865, was the bloodiest war in which America has ever taken part. It was fought between the Union, which consisted of the national government and 28 northern states, and the Confederacy, 11 southern states of secessionists. While there were many reasons for the rising tensions and apathy between the North and the South, arguably the biggest catalyst for the American Civil War was the abolition of slavery. Slavery had become illegal in the North, but many Southern states still maintained the practice because they perceived it to be vital to their economy. This dispute, amongst many others, grew more serious and heated until war was declared in 1861. Sadly, what followed was one of America’s most taxing moments.
